County lady player Sue Gulliver added the Scottish Open Pairs Title to her recent Dutch Open runner’s up spot with Lincolnshire’s Paula Jacklin. In the final played at the Normandy Hotel they were victorious over the Welsh Pairing of Chris Savvery and Jan Robbins. Sue has recently found her form that had her called up to the International squad.
Another great day at the Avenue club Stratford saw 24 entrants compete in a round robin. Some fantastic darts played with four groups of six and the top two of each group going through to the quarter finals. The losing players in the quarter finals were Sam Poland,Adrian Whadcoat,John Fowler and Graham Manning. The semi finals were great games but it wasnt to be for Andy Thomas and Keith Philburn. The final was a high scoring affair with Nigel Heydon coming out victorious 6 3 over Dean Harris. All in all another great day of darts at a brilliant venue. Next tournament coming soon.
Mark Westgarth and Mark Strong came through a fairly small but tough field in Coventry to progress to the English National Singles Finals later on this year. Strong overcame fellow County player Noel Grant in his final whilst Westgarth defeated another County player in Mark Carter, Westagrth taking out a 130 Finish on the Bull with Carter wanting 60 in the final leg. In the Birmingham region Qualifiers a very small contingent of Eight players fought it out with Rob Hawker taking the place after defeating Luis Barberan. These players will be joined by Ladies qualifiers and also maybe more Mens qualifiers once the venue for the finals has been fully announced.

Warwickshire suffered an overall 20-16 loss in Lancashire in the latest BICC Fixture.
After a steady start on the Saturday from the Ladies B side where they gained a creditable 3-3 draw, winners being Edwina Holdsworth on her Debut, Kat Spanswick and LOM Lisa Whitmore. Mens B took a brilliant 7-5 win with Matt Edgar hitting a superb 31.01 average also this after being 2-0 down. Coming in to the Sunday Ladies A stormed into a 2-0 lead with wins from Denise Burke and LOM Trina Gulliver 26.37, only one more winner being Angela Jones. Mens A turned out to be a disaster with a 9-3 loss, not fully deserved I might add but chances were not taken. Ian McFarlane taking the match award with 28.21 the two other winners being Nigel Heydon and Mark Strong. A couple of highlights from this game was Mark Carters brilliant 10 darter 180,140,145 and 36. Also Peter Hughes smashing out the maximum finish of 170.

Trina Gulliver came up trumps twice this weekend when taking the Dutch Open Pairs with Worcestershire’s Zoe Jones against Lincolnshires Paula Jacklin and Sue Gulliver (unlucky Sue). Then on the Sunday reached the final beating Anastasia Dobromyslova and Deta Hedman where she would meet with Lorraine Farlam, first three legs went in Trina’s favour but Lorraine duly took the next three in the best of 9 clash. Next one was a tight affair with Trina sneaking it but a super 13 dart leg was the eighth and final leg for her to take the Dutch Open Crown.
Big Congratulations to Trina on her fine victory.
