Dean Stewart (Top Picture) made it through to his second Warwickshire final but this time produced the darts to see him through to the National Gold Cup Singles Finals at Lakeside in July. A tough field once again saw Stewart reach the final after victories over Rob Hawker, Mark Strong and then Tommy Aldridge in the semi final. Graham Hall came through his half also facing some tough games, Mark Westgarth who took the 1st leg in 10 darts, 140, 180, 145 and 36 in 1 was eventually beaten 3-2, Antony Allen who was looking for his hat-trick of Gold Cup Singles titles in the semi final but Halls luck eventually ran out as Stewart saw the final double home.
Noel Grant and Will Naylor battled through their groups to secure a place at the Winmau World Masters regional’s later in the year. Grant faced the challenge of Mark Strong in his group final but Strong failed to capitalize on chances offered and Noel secured a 2 sets to 0 win. Naylor had made harder work of his final when facing a much in form Paul Austin. Naylor taking the final leg of the match with a 100 finish after busting it on two previous visits. These two players will be joined by the two highest placed eligible players in the Divisional Averages at the end of the season.
Warwickshire produced a great result this weekend when seeing off Lancashire by 19-17. The Ladies B side lost out on the first game but then reeled off the next 5 games with Melanie Hill taking her first match award after hitting a great 180. Simon Power produced his best game so far with the County hitting finishes of 128 and 126 in a 12 dart leg for his first match award with 28.55. Ladies A saw newly crowned Ladies World Champion Lisa Ashton of Lancs take on Lisa Whitmore with Ashton taking that game 3-0 but with some luck on doubles may have gone different. Mens A hit the road running with Tommy Aldridge on at one taking his game 4-2 aided by three 180s. Rob Hawker clinching the result and bonus points with a terrific 31.31 on last to give him the match award.
The British Darts Organisation have announced a new event to the calendar with the World Trophy which is to take place during the month of February. Any player wishing to enter this New Event please follow this link: BDO World Trophy.
There will be 4 match boards with a further 2 practice boards used on the day.
Registration opens at 9.30am and will close at 11.00am with first round games starting at 12.00pm.
