Warwickshire Mens A side produced a stunning 9 3 win over their weekend opponents Essex to steer the County to an overall 20-16 victory. The weekend had got off to a great start with the Ladies B taking a super 4-2 win with wins from Melanie Hill, Marian Conway, Edwina Holdsworth and Lady of the match Lisa Whitmore. Mens B faced a tough challenge with Essex full of experience and class. Luke Kennedy hit form straight away on 1st and took the Match award with a 28.48 average, other wins came from Antony Allen, Paul Deslandes and Will Naylor. in an 8-4 loss which left us 10-8 down overnight. Sunday saw again a tough Essex Ladies side but a great battle from the Bears taking a 3-3 draw with the luck going their way at times for a change. Winners being Donna Pinch, Denise Keyte and Lady of the match Trina Gulliver. 23.37. Mens A kicked off well with Tommy Aldridge and Dave Harris winning convincingly to level scores overall, two losses from Steve Hine and Noel Grant put us back again but then a superb run followed with only one more loss off Mark Westgarth, great wins from Dean Stewart 29.00, Jamie Atkins 23.49 who took the sixth leg with a stunning 150 out, 57,57 d18. Dickie Foster, Nigel Heydon, Kevin Dowling and Mark Carter completed their wins to give the County a superb win that again sees them firmly placed in 3rd ready for their final fixture away in Kent at the End of May.
Trina Gulliver and Jamie Hughes both played their part in a super weekend for all the England Darts teams. All sections were won by England with Youth Girls, Boys, Ladies and the Men with some brilliant darts all the way through. Trina the England Captain took both her games with victories over Frances Lawson of Scotland where they won 5 games to 1, and also in another 5-1 win over Wales she overcame Julie Gore. Jamie took his match against Wales over Johnny Clayton with a 4-1 score and then in his match with Scotland he overcame Alan Soutar with a 4-0 score and a 30.83 average. Well Done both the County of Warwickshire are proud of their International players.
Warwickshire had the last six players on the weekend to thank as they snatched victory from a position that was not looking too clever. Ladies B had a steady 3-3 draw with Kat Spanswick having a superb 22.77 ave for LOM and also a first County win came from Ann Rodgers. Mens B hit the ground running again with a great 8-4 win with Carl Green taking the match award with a 27.52. Ladies A once again suffered and went down by a 5-1 scoreline, Angela Jones taking the only win. This hit the County hard with an overnight 11-7 lead turned into a 12 – 12 stalemate. First three games set the stall out again with Glamorgan hitting home a running average of 29+ on them to take a commanding lead. Dean Stewart briefly stopped the rot but two further losses left the County staring at a 13-17 scoreline. Dave Harris back on song of late then took a great win followed by Mark Carter, Steve Hine 28.42 MOM, Nigel Heydon, Tommy Aldridge and finally Rob Hawker to give the Bears a super victory.
