Brian Johnson was today announced as the BDO Official Personality of the year for 2014. Many know that Brian has been with the County of Warwickshire from its inception back in 1974, a full 40 years service within the County for which he has held position of Secretary for many years. Players and Officials alike name Brian as Mr Warwickshire for his hard work and dedication to its cause, so this award is very fitting for the man itself.
We all offer our sincere congratulations to Brian on a much deserved award.
Here we see Brian receiving his award from BDO Director John Smith at Lakeside for the World Championships of 2015.
The County put up a great fight to gain a draw or a possible win after losing out 11-7 on the Saturday. Ladies B stormed a great 4-2 win with some great darts along the way, Wendy Adams, Edwina Holdsworth, Caroline Pike and LOM Marian Conway (21.17) gave the B lads something to work on, however Cheshire had other ideas and promptly despatched the lads with a 9-3 victory, only winners for the Bears were Matt Edgar, Ashley Hykin and MOM Will Maylor (26.43). Plenty of work to do on the Sunday with Ladies A nearly pulling out a win but settling for the 3-3 draw, winners Melanie Hill on her A debut, Sue Gulliver who battled immensly after a traumatic week personally, Trina Gulliver (20.88) taking the match award. The A lads looked a good draw on paper and one that a good win can be achieved, but a battling Cheshire A kept us at bay during the whole match. Eventually a 7-5 win where winners were Noel Grant, Kevin Dowling, Mark Westgarth on his 50th appearance for the Bears , Dean Stewart, Mark Carter, Dave Harris and a MOM from Rob Hawker (27.69). Overall a 19-17 loss but a good comeback none the less. Onwards to our next match at home versus Lincolnshire at the end of November.
