The World Darts Trophy kicked off yesterday being flimed “Live” on new channel Dave. Some great coverage from Lakeside saw Warwickshires Jamie Hughes overcome his tough opponent Ryan Joyce of Northumberland. Despite a mid game dip Hughes completed the match with two cool finishes with a 150 – two treble nineteens and a double 18 in the penultimate leg then taking out a 70 – treble 18 double eight to seal it. Trina Gulliver also progressed but after a very dour match that had a few high scores but loose darts aplenty, Trinas opponent had a chance in the very last leg to go through but missed her three darts at doubles for Gulliver to take out a double eight with great relief.
Trina Gulliver returned the Ladies World Championship to her home for an incredible tenth time after securing a very tense battle against Deta Hedman. Both players started nervy but a couple of maximums one from each player settled them down for the full battle. The first four sets all went against the darts with Hedman winning sets 1 and 3, Trina kicked off set four well and secured it 3-1 to set up the nervy last set. With Trina having the darts it was vital that she kept them and try to pressure the Hedman throw in leg 2, she succeeded there and never looked back after starting it with her third maximum. Third leg and Deta could not find anything in the tank and Trina set herself ready leaving 40 for the title which she duly despatched with a 1, 3 and d18 for the amazing feat of ten titles. Congratulations to the Golden Girl on this magnificent achievement. All at Warwickshire are very proud of you and we look forward to the next County Fixture.
Trina Gulliver came away from Selsey having a very succesful weekend. Finishing in the last four of the England National Singles losing out to Anca Zillstra by the odd leg, winning the Pairs with current World Champion Lisa Ashton and then losing out in the Open Singles to a very in-form Fallon Sherrock. Many games saw Trina blasting in high averages with some high scoring and precise finishing. Trina in this sort of form spells trouble for all the Ladies on the circuit.
The Ladies of Cubbington completed the double for the season when securing a tight 4-3 victory over Nuneaton in this years Ladies KO Cup. A very successful season by all accounts from the Ladies
Southam pulled off a great result when taking the annual KO Cup in the Mens Superleague last night. A tough draw for all saw ten teams enter on the night. Two games had to be played to bring us into the main last eight with Cov Bishopsgate defeating Castle Vale by the odd game and then Brandon defeated Sutton Sports. Southam won over a Whitnash team to set up a semi final clash with either of the previous two winners. Nuneaton took a good win over Rugby whilst Bishopsgate Nomads were seen off by a determined Stratford team. Cov Bishopsgate then saw off Brandon with Stratford defeating Nuneaton to make the final where they were to face Southam who had a superb win over Cov Bishopsgate in the semi final. Final saw Southam the stronger taking it 6-1. Winning team were Captain Steve Sunderland, Steve Ward, Charlie Symons, Andy Swain, Ted Evetts, Jon Wigley, Paul Austin and Ian Shaw. Big Congratulations to Southam on their fine win and commiserations to a gallant Stratford team.
Warwickshire returned from their latest trip to Essex with a hefty 22-14 defeat. With the Ladies B gaining a 3-3 draw that was the ony game where we gained points in the individual tables. Donna Pinch taking the Ladies award. Mens B faced a very experienced Essex side and were beaten 8-4 but a couple maybe could have had their games to equal the score up.Matt Edgar taking the B award with a superb 30.36 which without missed doubles would have undoubtedly given him the highest average in the division. Ladies A fresh from their first victory in two years were taken apart 4-2 with Trina Gulliver and Wendy Adams taking the wins. Mens A also had missed chances galore which could again have given us a better overall scoreline. Nigel Heydon Mark Carter and Mark Westgarth all hammering home 29 averages for their wins but a brillant 33.97 from England International Jamie Hughes was the highlight for the Bears. We now sit 6th in the division and entertain Kent in our final fixture of the season late in May.

Trina Gulliver returned with a bang when taking the Lincolnshire Open held at the Blues Club in Gainsborough. A tough semi final encounter with Cambridgeshires Amanda Abbott which went to the distance with Trina starting the final leg with a 180 before finishing brillinatly on a 152. Trina then faced Sarah Roberts in the final who had earlier taken out Cambridgeshires Claire Ball, the final despite some high scoring from Sarah went the way of Trina by a 4-0 scoreline. finishing with an average of 26.72.
